Cell phone may cause risk of Cancer

Posted in General by Bes on Mar 31, 2006

I’ve said it to many people, and many people have told me this too. Even then, I have a cell phone, and my use of it will continue [almost a rhyming poem, darn!]. The National Institute for Working Life recently published the results of their research on cell phone usage which strongly suggest that using cell phone for prolonged periods of time does cause brain tumors. My research in college wasn’t done in vain, after all.

More on this later. Here is my Samsung SGH-X495 T-mobile cell phone. This close-up shot was taken on March 27th, 2006 using the macro-lens. The shot isn’t entirely clear because of the dust and *other* particles on the display screen, which were clearly visible with the zoom in but to the naked and weak eye, they’re completely invisible.

Wow about the cell phones thing… I actually did a research paper on that my freshman year of high school, but that was about 5 years ago… But still, I’d want a cell phone… Heheh…

  2. Bes :

Yes, doing research on this topic is really cool and interesting. Wanting one is like wanting a necessity these days, no? :p

I dont think this study is gonna alter anything. The cell phone companies have enough marketting power to sell their products.

Hell, why marketting, these days cell phones have become a necessity. It aint an option.

  4. Bes :

I guess you’re right on many levels. It will increase awareness, though something to change legally in any country requires more approval and exposure of such a study.

Cell phones have become a necessity, no doubt. The cell phone companies will probably be, in an ideal optimistic world, required to come up with cell phones that do not cause any harm, whether short or long term, to any user of such a device.

  5. XanGo :

Well using cell phones is always a risk. I think that it is more dangerous than useful. The point is that it has merged so much into people’s live that they find it hard to get away from it.

I am sure there are going to many more risks that will arise from the links.

I think that it is impossible to live without a mobile phone in this age and I think that health risks are there for everything!

The thing is that there is still no concrete evidence as far as I know and also no one is mentioning the magnitude of the risk involved.

Brain tumor, sounds scary but I am not convinced that its only because of mobile phones.

  7. Neem King :

It does not matter to me. I use hands free all time, you cant say that there is a risk still….? :p

  8. Jasmine :

If there are some cancer reported incidents then I think it is on the media now. It will bring a negative impact on cellphone companies. It will be the start of a study and a warning to those cellphone buyers and fanatics (including me). A thorough study is needed and research papers must be conducted and presented.

Some say that cellular phones is a necessity and some aren’t. Speaking for myself, I think it is a necessity because anyone can contact you anywhere you go. For emergencies and other stuffs.

I think it is time someone takes a firm stand on Mobile Phones and this has to be a strong and fixed approach too. There has been a lot beating around the bush and this has to be stopped.

There has to be a collective consensus on this topic and also at the same time there has to be a good scientific approach.
